‘쓰레기 섬’이라고 불리는 바다의 쓰레기 더미들은 지금까지 인류가 만든 인공물 중 가장 크다. 이 해안쓰레기들은 대부분 해당 해안 주변 국가의 육지로부터 유입된다. 우리나라는 1년에 약 17만 6천t의 쓰레기가 국내로부터 바다로 유입되며, 이는 재난이라 일컫는다. 바다로 유입된 방대한 쓰레기는 섬을 이루기도 하지만, 동물에게 피해를 주고, 먹이사슬의 끝에 있는 인간에게 까지 악영향을 끼친다. 이 쓰레기 재난은 어업인들의 생계에 치명적이며 무엇보다 환경적 관점에서 심각한 상황이다. 하지만 현재 진행되는 국내 해안쓰레기 관리 사업들은 이미 침적된 쓰레기를 수거하는 방식으로 비효율적이며, 수시작업이 어려우며, 악취와 위생 등의 관리에서 취약하다. 이에 쓰레기가 바다로 떠내려가 침적되기 전, 해안가에서 떠도는 부유쓰레기들을 한 번에 수거할 수 있도록 한 곳에 모아주어, 해양쓰레기를 미리 1차적으로 수거하고 예방하는 시스템 디자인을 제안한다. |

In Korea, about 176,000 tons of garbage flows into the sea from the country a year, which is called disaster. Massive trash infiltrated into the sea forms an island, but it also damages the animals and adversely affects humans at the end of the food chain. This trash disaster is fatal to the livelihoods of fishermen and,above all, serious from an environmental point of view. It suggests system design that collects and prevents marine litter in advance by collecting the floating garbage that drifts off the coast at one time before the litter drifts to the sea and sinks. |
